Election Information At Your Fingertips
Cathy SwerdlowElection time is here again, and many of us feel like we are drowning in news stories and social-media posts. There is so much mis/disinformation floating around that we don’t know where to turn. Well, the League of Women Voters of Seminole County (LWV Seminole), with our factual resources, is just what you need.
LWV Seminole has been a reliable nonpartisan source for candidate information, education on amendments, and the facts about where, when, and how to vote in our county since 1966. This year you will vote in two elections.
The first election, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, is not just Primary Day for the political party members to choose their candidates. It is also the day when every voter in the county will select a number of Seminole County Public Schools (SCPS) Board members, county judges, and Florida 18th Circuit Court judges. Important to note is although the School Board candidates run based on established districts, everyone in the county votes in all the district races.
The second election, on Tuesday, November 3, is the date of the general election when everyone will vote in statewide races including governor and state legislative offices, federal contests in Florida for one U.S. Senator and Congressional District 7 Representative, county and city elections, and proposed amendments to our state constitution.
LWV Seminole has several ways to provide up-to-date information for the voters. In preparation for the August 18 election, the League will host two in-person candidate forums; one for the School Board candidates and one for the judicial candidates.
The School Board Forum is co-hosted with the Seminole County Council PTA and will be held on July 23 at 5:00 p.m. at the SCPS Educational Support Center Board Room, 400 East Lake Mary Boulevard in Sanford.
The Judicial Forum will be held on July 29 at 5:30 p.m. at the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office Community Room, 100 Eslinger Way in Sanford.
Both forums are open to the public and will give attendees the opportunity to meet the candidates and hear directly from them as they answer questions.
Our greatest resource is the online VOTE411 voter information guide. A product of the League of Women Voters Education Fund (LWVEF), VOTE411.org has served tens of millions of voters and won multiple national awards during the last 15-plus years. VOTE411 is your one-stop shop for everything about elections, including bilingual election information.
To use VOTE411, just input your address to be directed to the specific races that will be on your ballot. You will see all the information about where, how and when to vote. As well, you can read about ballot measures in clear, non-biased language that explains what a “yes” or “no” vote means.
The site’s candidate section features questions designed for the specific elected office that are sent to each candidate. The candidate uploads his/ her answers directly to the site. There is no editing done In our mission to Empower Voters and Defend Democracy, LWV Seminole is also available and happy to provide presentations to any group, large or small, on amendments, civic engagement, mis/disinformation, local government, and more.
Cathy Swerdlow is the president of the League of Women Voters of Seminole County.
