Atlas Rehabilitation
by Jeannine Gage
In Greek mythology, Atlas is condemned by the gods to hold the weight of the heavens on his shoulders for eternity.
That’s the exact opposite of how Aimee and Jimmy Adisano want their Atlas Rehabilitation patients to feel. The company has been providing in-home physical therapy to patients in six counties for nine years, and their comfort is key.
“We are here to make people feel comfortable,” says Aimee.
Atlas Rehabilitation offers a wide range of services for those with joint and spinal injuries or chronic conditions. The team of clinicians see most of their patients before and after surgery. The company also specializes in treating lymphedema and does custom wheelchair evaluations.
Lymphedema is a buildup of fluid in the body between the skin and muscle that causes swelling.
“It can be significant for patients,” says Aimee. “It will increase their pain and limit their mobility.”
Several treatment options are available to patients and include wrap massages, compression pumps, and exercises.
Atlas Rehabilitation also provides spine rehab. Spinal conditions can include herniated or bulging discs, pinched nerves, and piriformis syndrome. Each patient is assessed thoroughly, and a personalized treatment plan is then created.
Ultimately, Jimmy says, it’s the basics that are important.
“We teach patients safe mobility and what they should expect post surgery,” he says. “We also provide home exercises so patients can maintain their strength.”
Aimee says assessing wheelchair needs is important. Whether the chair is needed for an injury or a debilitating condition such as cerebral palsy, each patient must be assessed carefully.
“There are so many options when it comes to wheelchairs,” says Aimee. “Different conditions require different chairs. And they must fit well for the patient’s mobility and comfort.”
Aimee and Jimmy are partners in life as well as business. He is a physical therapist and she is the office manager. They live with their two daughters in Winter Springs.
“Having a small business and our lives here, we really want to be a part of this community and help people here,” says Aimee.
You’ll find the Adisanos tabling at community events, spreading the word about how Atlas Rehabilitation can take what feels like the weight of the world off their patients’ shoulders...and knees and spines.
