Marty’s Auto Works
by Emma Dixon
“It smells like alpaca poop.”
I turned to see my son, strapped into his car seat, dramatically holding his nose and gagging.
He wasn’t wrong. I should add we’re both experienced in this area, having recently visited an alpaca farm, but it wasn’t an odor I expected to find in a Nissan Altima.
“Also, it’s really hot, mama.”
Again, he wasn’t wrong. I’d also noticed the car’s air conditioning was putting up a pitiful fight against the summer heat. I needed to get the car checked out ASAP.
A friend encouraged me to call Marty’s Auto Works in Longwood. John answered the phone on the second ring and listened patiently while I explained the problem.
“Let me see what I can do,” John said. “You can’t be without A/C in Florida!”
Sure enough, he quickly called back, having thoroughly researched the issue, and the car was booked in for speedy repair.
Not only did Marty’s Auto Works accurately diagnose and fix the problem, they kept me updated throughout the entire process. When I picked up the car, John even showed me the old A/C condenser and filter so I could see exactly what was wrong and what they did to fix it. He also asked if the interior of the car smelled like a barnyard.
“Yes! Alpaca poop!” I exclaimed, much to his astonishment.
It turns out, leaking Freon smells like manure, or in this case, alpaca poop (this informational nugget absolutely delighted my son).
The customer service at Marty’s Auto Works was unparalleled, and the cost was fair and reasonable. Offering me water when I arrived, providing a shuttle service, backing my car onto the shop floor so I wouldn’t get soaked in the afternoon rain... it all made me feel valued and appreciated. Everyone greeted me with a genuine smile, and I left feeling so grateful to have found them – an automotive shop I could trust and rely on. I also felt so very cool. My car was positively icy! And it didn’t stink! I had a big smile on my face as I drove away.
