Stevens Kitchens

by Jeannine Gage

Steve Tedesco has always been a creative guy. As a young man, he was a professional musician with his sights set on being a rock star. To this day, you can still catch Steve performing around town with his groups Black Canvas and Sonic City. He even toured with a couple of successful rock bands back in the day. But as many youthful dreams do, Steve’s fell prey to real life, and he eventually started working full-time in the kitchen cabinet industry.

Not such a bad thing, it turns out, as Steve is now a successful business owner who helps make homeowners' dreams come true at Stevens Kitchens.

This year, Steve is celebrating 20 years in business. And that creativity? He's putting it to good use helping homeowners create new custom kitchens, bathrooms, and more.

From the Ground Up

Steve started out as a cabinet installer for a local homebuilder. Then he began getting his own clientele, which led Steve to successfully launch Stevens Kitchens.

“I like meeting people; I’m a people person,” Steve says. “And it is a creative outlet going into someone’s home and reinventing the complete look and feel of their living space.”

He’s been in a lot of homes since then renovating 40-50 kitchens a year. He also is a master at renovating bathrooms and other spaces.

Steve says going from cabinet installer to business owner was hard work, but it also involved a lot of support and luck.

“There were some great people who helped me along the way,” he says, “who had faith in me.”

Even the housing crash in 2008 did not slow Stevens Kitchens down. He had a showroom in downtown Oviedo at the time that “was very affordable,” he says, because he procured all the showroom displays from a company in South Florida that was shutting down. Then, the City began renovating the downtown Oviedo area and the state had to help cover most of Steve’s expenses for the move to his current location at 1399 West Broadway Street.

“So, I got lucky twice!” Steve says with a laugh.

According to his customers, though, it’s not luck that keeps Stevens Kitchens in business. Dan and Peggy Dwyer of Oviedo hired Steve to redo their kitchen several years ago.

“I’ve never had a contractor as good as Steve,” Dan says. “He was meticulous, paid attention to detail, and had great design ideas. We were so happy with the kitchen, we’ve had him redo four bathrooms since then!”

Steve is a rock star of kitchen and bathroom remodeling. Rock on, Stevens Kitchens!
