UCF Health | Faculty Physician Practice

by Georgia Rivas

Since its inception in 2011, UCF Health has continued to grow and expand to best serve the needs of the Central Florida community. The UCF Health Faculty Physician Practice is the College of Medicine’s clinical practice, in which faculty members of the UCF College of Medicine provide medical care to the public. Its trusted practitioners are on the cutting edge in their respective fields and are focused on offering patients individualized care and utilizing best practices in the medical field. Patients across the community can receive primary and specialty care services between two locations – East Orlando, just blocks from the main UCF campus, and Lake Nona. Each location is led by a medical director: Ariel Mejia, MD, at East Orlando, and Pierce Trumbo, MD, at Lake Nona.

In recent years, the practice has added more medical providers and specialities in the areas of cardiology, ophthalmology, primary care, and rheumatology, giving patients additional options all under       one umbrella.

UCF Health Faculty Physician Practice is able to best serve patients because all attending physicians work together and seamlessly coordinate care management. Primary care and internal medicine doctors work as a team with other specialists in the practice to ensure patients are taken care of on all fronts. The multi-speciality practice model and continuity-of-care approach is thoughtfully designed to be a one-stop shop for a patient’s complete care. There are few practices in the Greater Orlando community that can provide similar, consolidated care.

As an academic practice, UCF Health Faculty Physician Practice providers are not only medical experts, they are also teachers at heart. These professionals are teaching the next generation of doctors at the UCF College of Medicine, and they work collaboratively using the best of their knowledge and resources to address a patient’s healthcare needs. Physicians are constantly keeping up with the newest research and medical breakthroughs, and they bring these advancements to their patients. They take the time to educate patients about their health and evidence-based ways to lower their risk factors. Patients may also be seen by UCF medical students, which often results in additional face time and personalized care from the medical team.

From a patient’s standpoint, that means even more attentive care as their medical team takes the time to understand symptoms and/or health goals, and explain care options and the most up-to-date scientific evidence on best practices to achieve wellness. The providers are meticulous and provide a personal approach to each patient as well as attentive follow up after appointments.

The UCF College of Medicine is on track to be a national leader in education, research, and patient care. As a community, having access to such a top-ranked research university in our backyard, alongside the UCF Health Faculty Physician Practice, is a tremendous benefit. As the UCF Health Faculty Physician Practice continues to grow, more providers and specialities are on the horizon. Most major insurances are accepted, and in-person as well as telehealth appointments are offered.
