Winter Springs Roofing & Repair
by Chip Colandreo
It’s been nearly seven years since Hurricane Irma tore through Central Florida, but the 2017 storm has Winter Springs Roofing & Repair founder Bill Sumner busier than ever.
How is that possible? It’s simple... and sad.
“The shoddy work done by storm-chasing, unscrupulous roofers – or people posing as roofers – is coming undone,” says Bill, “and it’s costing homeowners thousands and thousands of dollars.”
In just the first few months of 2024, Bill and his team at Winter Springs Roofing have already replaced three substandard roofs that were less than six years old – all of them installed by roofing companies that have since gone out of business (if they were legitimate to begin with). Winter Springs Roofing crews have repaired dozens more that began leaking after fewer than three years. When the homeowners called their original roofers to report the leaks, they reached disconnected numbers or, in the rare case someone did pick up the phone, the roofer claimed their work came with only a one-year warranty.
Avoid the Scams
If someone rings your doorbell and makes an unsolicited offer to inspect your roof for damage, it’s almost certainly an insurance scam. Bill gets the same solicitations at his own house.
“These scams are the reason our homeowner’s insurance rates keep going up,” Bill explains. “Only work with a roofer you trust, someone who has been in business a long time and has a track record they can prove.”
Winter Springs Roofing has been serving Central Florida for 38 years, and it has an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau.
After more than three decades of service, Bill is only now starting to replace the quality roofs he installed all those years ago. It’s a testament to craftsmanship and a commitment to excellence.
“The homeowner has all the power to prevent scams and protect their home,” says Bill. “They just have to hire the right people.”
