Atlas Rehabilitation

Physical therapy is an important aspect of recovery after major surgeries, such as total knee or hip replacement, but getting to and from rehab appointments can pose huge problems for patients who are unable to drive.

An easy solution? In-home physical therapy provided by Atlas Rehabilitation. Serving the Oviedo-Winter Springs area since 2015, Atlas Rehab is dedicated to helping its patients return to their normal, everyday activities in the comfort of their homes.

“Our patients choose in-home physical therapy because of the ease and accessibility,” says Aimee Adisano, a certified nursing assistant who co-owns Atlas Rehab with husband Jimmy, who is a physical therapist and certified athletic trainer. “For a lot of our patients, their families live out of state or they’re not close by, so they depend on others for transportation. For them, in-home physical therapy is so much more convenient.”

Aimee also points out that the personalized one-on-one care provided by Atlas Rehab allows its physical therapists to form a special bond with patients. Atlas Rehab specializes in working with geriatric patients, helping them improve their strength, balance, and endurance so they can perform their activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, and getting in and out of beds or chairs.

“We also have the ability to make sure their living conditions and the environment in their homes are safe to be in,” adds Jimmy.

That starts with a walk-through evaluation during each physical therapist’s first visit. The therapists look for possible problems like slippery rugs that can be tripped over or items in a kitchen that are difficult to reach — anything that could potentially create a fall hazard. They can make recommendations for the installation of grab bars in bathrooms or for doorway ramps to make it easier for patients with wheelchairs or walkers to get in and out of the house.

“We want to help our patients regain their independence and resume their normal routines,” Aimee says. “When Jimmy or any of our therapists go into a patient’s home, we always ask: ‘What are the activities that you would like to get back to doing?’ That’s one of our biggest goals. Whatever they want to accomplish, we want to make it happen for them. We also want our patients to be comfortable and happy, and we want to build their trust.”
