Wilson & Company

by Kevin Fritz

From its humble beginnings in 1994, Wilson & Company is now celebrating three decades of serving the needs of commercial business owners throughout the City of Oviedo and surrounding areas.

“We are proud of the Oviedo community and to be part of the city’s growth over the past 30 years,” says Barry Henderson, the company’s president and CEO.

Barry, who has been with the organization for 27 of its 30 years, says Wilson & Company is marking this year’s milestone by breaking ground on its new office and warehouse space. The 7,000-square-foot facility, located in a local industrial park, is necessary due to company growth and the changing dynamics of how construction companies operate today.

“This is part of a long-term growth plan,” says Barry. “The new facility will better serve our company’s and clients’ needs.”

Founded by long-time residents Amelia and Parks Wilson, the company manages commercial construction projects by providing three primary services: building from the ground up, renovations and build-outs, and fulfilling a refresh.

Those services have been applied to successful projects including churches, banks, retail outlets, restaurants, government buildings, and medical construction, the latter of which has been taking center stage at Wilson & Company.

Finding a Niche in Medical Construction

“Healthcare is our bread and butter,” says Dave Grosz, project manager. “We have accomplished a lot in the area of medical space.”

Those projects have included pharmacies, doctor and dentist offices, and outpatient facilities.

Most recently, Wilson & Company completed a renovation project at Oviedo Endodontics on Broadway Street near Oviedo High School. Last year, the company was privileged to work with Dr. Brett Lawton to build and design a new office for Lawton Orthodontics on Alafaya Woods Boulevard that resembled the city’s famed Lawton House.

Dave says Wilson & Company began focusing on medical construction projects to shift from retail-centric ventures during the 2008-09 recession.

“We were building department stores, almost two a year, which went flat,” he explains. “Then an opportunity came from a medical client who wanted to relocate their offices to Florida within a 60-day time frame, and that’s what started Wilson & Company concentrating on medical space.”

Locally, some of Wilson & Company’s medical-related projects include Memory Lane Cottage, Waterford Lakes Medical Offices, Patterson Medical Complex, and Oviedo Animal Hospital.
